Database

The MAPSS instance of the Arches database platform builds on the design and programming developments of related Arches projects.

Integrating information resources such as satellite imagery, publications, field photography, and drone imagery with archival datasets from field surveys, geoarchaeological data, and in-house site discovery through remote sensing methods.

The core principles of MAPSS database modelling are certainty valuation, paradata, interpretive plurality, and longitudinal assessment.

The database will eventually be trilingual, featuring data and user interfaces in English, Mongolian, and Russian. For now, all data is available in English. In addition to localisation, key areas for future collaborative database development include hierarchical data importation, value-based permissions, advanced access restrictions for site coordinates, dynamic concept lists, linked open data, and QGIS interoperability.
